What was the most recent strong feeling or emotion that you experienced? Would you describe it as positive or negative?
Strong deep feelings are second most valuable thing after time. Actually, I might still debate as to which one is #1 and which one is #2.
Feelings are what makes us human, and embracing them whether positive or negative is important for our mental health and personal growth.
We are surrounded by so much in this world - various subjects of studies, interests and hobbies, numerous points of view and life purpose directions, developed societies and cities, ways to meet people and engage in conversations, various entertainment options. We can allow ourselves to experience deep strong feelings, both positive and negative. Passion, inspiration, love, enjoyment, loneliness, gratitude, sense of purpose, grief, enlightenment, and many more. But sometimes feelings seem hard to bear, and positive feelings can often turn into negative ones, it’s just a nature of those feelings. There is always a risk with letting yourself embrace feelings, and many of us are afraid of them. And so, we also surrounded ourselves with ways to numb those emotions and feelings or in other words cut the edge off to make them less strong - alcohol, drugs, overeating, excessive social media, binge watching, virtual reality and obsessive gaming to name a few. We hide ourselves engaging in those activities to cut the edge off, to make feelings dull. Fast-forward one finds herself empty - we also call that a depression, associated with lack of motivation, purpose and lack of feeling alive.
It’s time to stop letting your emotions and feelings going to waste and dulling them down in fear. Embrace them, feel them all the way through. Even the negative ones, they shall pass but while they are around feel them through, don’t dwell on them or try to change them, just experience them, and let them go when they are ready to dissolve with time. Such approach would help you experience the positive feelings on a deeper level too, and feel happier.
Let’s be honest here - getting excited about a new passion often leads to failing with it. Falling madly in love might often lead to getting your heart broken. Getting attached to a new friend sometimes leads to losing trust with her. But without taking these risks you’re missing out on experiencing some of the amazing feelings.
All feelings make you feel human, and they are all part of life. Enjoy them, embrace them, don’t robotize yourself by numbing the hard feelings. Open up your heart, let yourself live.
If you are looking to awaken mind and heart feelings, you can start with awakening your sensations. There are a few things that help me live my life to the fullest, feel alive, fuel my motivation passion and inspiration. Here they are:
Taking contrast showers in the morning. Letting the cold water flow against my body is sure uncomfortable, but awakens my sensory feelings first thing every morning
Eating great quality food and enjoying every bite of it
Listening to different music that create various moods
Aromatherapy
Taking a step back, putting the world on pause and concentrating on yourself every now and then
Meditating
Massages and body care
Dancing to my favorite music
Surrounding myself with beauty - nature, flowers, sunsets and sunrises. Don’t you think we’ve been spending too much time in our screens in the 21st century?
