Sustainability has different angles – from sustainability of our mindsets to sustainability of our habitat – everything is interconnected.
Taking care of our planet and society starts with taking care of OURSELVES.
A strong mindset, a healthy body, and a kind heart are what it takes to level you up into the state of caring for yourself, for others, and for the planet at the highest level. Find and show appreciation for all the blessings around: opportunities, experiences, interactions with others, surrounding cities and nature, and of course your body and mind, just the way they are now.
I would like to go over a few ways of achieving just that - strong mind, strong body and fulfilled life. It starts with taking good care of yourself. Here are a few steps you can take to get there:
Sleep well. We spend a third of our lives asleep, which is why sleep is so important. Keep track of your sleep, there are great phone apps for that (I love using Sleep Cycle), but you can also just keep notes of how many hours of sleep you really need and what helps you get a proper restful sleep (tea before bed? Dark blinds? Cotton or silk pajamas? Try different options to find what works for you).
Drink plenty of water. Water makes up about 60% of the human body, and needs to be replenished constantly.
Maintain a good diet that includes plenty of veggies, fruits, and provides a proper amount of protein and vitamins.
Reduce the number of bad habits (drinking, smoking, consuming too much sugar, excessive social media, procrastinating), and increase the number of good habits.
Get rest when you need it. Whether you need a couple of hours at the end of the day to unwind or a week at the end of each quarter to take a trip away - do it. This will help you get new perspective, find inspiration and motivation to perform better when you need to be productive.
Exercise: run, bike, go to the gym, play sports - whatever exercise makes you happy and gets your heart pumping. It fuels your body with much needed oxygen, helps you reduce stress, keeps you in shape, and improves your mood.
Meditate or try yoga - these exercises also reduce stress, allow you to take a step back and help you find balance.
Get regular massages, and other body treatments (scrubs, stretching, saunas, facials, manicures, pedicures) - these may increase your happiness hormones, and contributes to feeling confident and satisfied.
Spend some time outside - getting some sun and fresh air has numerous benefits and may prevent depressive moods.
Follow a daily routine - automating your habits and schedule gives you the freedom and time to do what you love.
Tune your body and mind by following these steps to live your best life.
Having a strong mind and body would help you find love and kindness in most unexpected places, and would allow you to share those great feelings with others.
Thinking, acting and making decisions as though you have a heart the size of a universe, would go a long way, and while it may not be as easy at times, it is so worth it.
Changing your state of mind would require effort at first - society, marketing and certain circles of people influence us to stay within our comfort zones by choosing what’s easy, mediocre, fulfilling only in a short term, and thus addictive. This can lead to regrets, feelings of having an unfulfilled life, and lack of control over what’s happening around you.
Life is beautiful. It always is. And all the ups and downs are a part of the journey. Times may be hard, but life in its glorious whole self remains beautiful, just take a step back and look at it from a side. Little intricacies come around and go away, but in a grand scale life is a gift. This kind of thinking is the beginning to the strong mind, which will take you through tough times and let you have the best life.
